The Wall Activities Part 2
1) Education is in a way a thought control. Since we are born, we are forced to learn a certain language and certain subjects imposed as priorities in our educational system. This implies that we all learn and grow the same, having the general knowledge of the same things. This can be considered as a thought control, but that concept sounds to harsh refering to education instead of refering to ideology for example.
2) The son has grown lonely, living the consequences of the war, in which his father died. War, one of the main topics of the movie, gets involved generation after generation, devastating morally, physically or mentally to those who suffered it. These are the roles of these to characters (father and son).
3) "The Happiest days of our lives" is a sarcastic reference to the nostalgic idea that childhood should be the happiest time of anyone's life (before being an adult full of responsabilities). The childhood is a moment of complete freedom and fun. This is not portrayed neither in the lyrics nor in the video. The images follow the lines description, pulling out the weaknesses of each student (the example of the old teacher reading aloud the poem), or getting home to eat with their "fat and psychopatic wives" (also shown in the video). So the title of the song can be considered as a huge irony.
